English Camp '09 was marked with wet, cold weather, many changed plans, and a couple of different epidemics. However all that paled in comparison with the teens who decided to accept Jesus into their hearts!
The weather was cold and wet, and kept us inside more than what we wanted or had planned. But God worked it out for good. Being inside more, especially in the beginning of the week, meant there was more time to get to know the teens in small group atmospheres.
Every morning after breakfast we had a time of worship in the chapel. Since this was an English camp, most of the songs were in English (with the German translation under it). After the singing time, the youth had their English lessons. There were four classes, divided by age and English ability. Every day the youth learned some new idioms and discussed in class the idioms and other topics related to the theme for the day. It was a great curriculum that got the students speaking in English from the very first day. After the lesson time, we had lunch and a short break. Then there were afternoon workshops, which were also in English. After the workshop time were planned outside group games. This is where our days usually had to get creative as the cold rainy weather kept up inside for all but two of the afternoons we were at the camp. After dinner each day was an evening program. The program each night took a reality TV show as it's theme, and there was usually a fun element to the evening, followed by a message. Following the evening program each night was the Late Night Lounge. The first to arrive were usually the youngest of the boys eager to eat again! But this time also was a time to connect with the youth as we played games, talked, and snacked together.
Very full days, a very full week. And even fuller hearts that left the camp.
Thank you again for all your prayers. God definitely touched hearts and changed lives this week. Please continue to be in prayer as many are still recovering from getting sick during the camp, and most importantly for those that are just beginning to live their lives with God.
